How will you participate in the United Way's education effort?
How will you help?
We have a variety of volunteer opportunities. Find those most suited to your interests.
We're proud to announce a partnership with the General Motors Foundation. Now, we need your help on the ground to achieve our goals.
In December 2010, the GM Foundation generously donated $27.1 million to the United Way for Southeastern Michigan's two-pronged education effort, preparing young children for success in school and turning around failing high schools.
High Performing Schools Effort. Our goal is to use these critical funds to turn 30 dropout factories in our region into schools that graduate more than 80 percent of their students.
Early Childhood Education. A portion of the GM gift will also be used to create early learning community centers near each of the seven schools to be named today. At the centers, caregivers will be trained in how to prepare children up to age 5 for kindergarten.
While the GM Foundation's contribution is crucial to our efforts, money alone won't solve all the problems our schools face. We need people, just like you, from all across Southeastern Michigan to get involved.
